A collection of textiles wrapped around headless forms, combining draping and intuitive design.

Initially self-taught, I was inspired to work with fabrics from young age when I lived a rural Queensland. Growing up in the bush meant limited resources. Sewing provided a pathway that enabled one to be different when options were scarce. Later I studied draping and patternmaking at UAL: Central St Martins (Granary square, London, UK). These days I sculpt with a variety of materials, including fabric, paper and other malleable materials.

Creating these pieces using this approach is liberating, as it’s instinctive. Most of these designs were made by wrapping, draping, folding, tucking, gathering, pleating, twisting, pinning and stitching to a form.

I am fascinated how covering the flesh with textiles can change our perceptions of the wearer, indeed change own perceptions of ourselves. These nameless, faceless female torsos are free from many of the constraints that phenotype has on identity. 'Wrapped' is an ongoing project. Check in regularly for updates.
